…when i was a teenager way back in the day, i used to like to draw a lot, as well as to write short stories and poems. one particular night i was sitting in the living room of my grandparents’ house sketching my grandfather. he was rocking quietly in his chair, clouds of smoke rising from the bowl of his curved wooden pipe. when i got tired of drawing i remember complaining about being bored. that’s when one of my aunts, who was also there watching TV, went upstairs to her room and came back down with a reddish brown nylon string guitar in one hand, and a booklet titled “The Ed Sale Guitar Method” in the other. she handed them to me and said something along the lines of “…here, learn how to play this”. i’d always loved listening to music, but until that moment i had never considered actually trying to learn to play an instrument. intrigued, i took the guitar and booklet from her and went downstairs to the kitchen. there i began what i had no idea at the time would become a lifelong passion. the first 3 guitar chords i taught myself that night were G, C and D7. eventually, after learning a few more chords and becoming sufficiently adept at changing between them, i would add words and melodies to the different chord combinations and create my own songs. now, many moons later i’ve finally completed recording an album and companion CD that both include 9 of these “Seitunes” to share with anyone out there who might be interested in hearing my music. i call this collection of songs “For Getting and Remembering”.
